Tapachula is located in the mountain range that creates the Sierra Madre Chiapaneca. Very close to the southern border of the country, this city is where it is said that “Mexico ends”, but for some it is “where it just begins” … a magical place full of cultural diversity and a wide biodiversity, which have made it position itself in the top of the best destinations to live rich experiences, in close contact with nature. This is why we present toyou today, three good reasons that will make you LOVE Tapachula.
- Its landscapes
A mosaic of colors unfolds before the eyes of those who have the privilege of visiting Tapachula, for there are very few places in the world that have landscapes like those existing there: an exuberant and green jungle made up of thousands of leafy trees, many of them bathed by crystalline waterfalls which in turn give life to hundreds of species of flowers creating a feast of color all together.
- Its gastronomy
Tapachula is characterized by its great diversity of native dishes, which despite the passage of time continue to be prepared and being part of the daily diet of its current inhabitants, which makes its cuisine a real attraction for visitors who have the opportunity to know how it was eaten in pre-Hispanic eras.
To mention some examples we can highlight those prepared with “chipilin”, which is an edible leaf plant with a pleasant taste and very rich in iron and calcium, grown only in the region; among them are “chipilin with balls” (balls of fried dough that are added to a chipilin broth), “chipilin with beans” accompanied with pork and the delicious “tamales de chipilin”.
In addition to the above, we are sure that all the palates will be conquered with the flavors emanating from the mixture of fresh ingredients produced in the area, which you will not be able to taste anywhere else, although definitely the number one place goes to its coffee; the one produced in this area is special, so much so that it has the first place in the production of quality organic coffee worldwide, thanks to its excellent wet climate with short periods of drought makeing it all possible.
3.- Its culture
As we talked before, the cultural diversity in Tapachula is quite wide thanks to the mix of the population that was generated even before its foundation as a city. Spaniards, Lebanese, Chinese, Japanese and Germans migrated from their country to these lands where they found an excellent place to live, making it their home, adapting to the customs of the native inhabitants, and forming the basis of what can be known today as its wonderful culture.
Throughout the year there are many celebrations, exhibitions, and traditional fairs that fill with joy the streets of the city, accompanied by traditional marimba music, a cultural value in itself.
Visit Tapachula, and live by yourself all the marvels of this site.
